COVID-19 Rescheduling/Postponing

As we delve into April with more uncertainty than ever, I’m here to offer a few pieces of advice with this rescheduling process. I’ve definitely been holding out hope thus far that anything from June on will be alright, but if we’ll be in this for a bit longer than we’d like, here’s some advice.

If you have a wedding in June/July, don’t panic. However, if you haven’t contacted your vendors yet, it’s time. Get on the phone with your venue and vendors and start considering a back-up plan. A couple alternative options if you’re a June/July couple dedicated to your date and are forced to reschedule:

-Elope! Celebrate later with all your guests when it’s safe and you can truly enjoy it with everyone.

-Postpone, don’t cancel! Transferring to a different date with your venue and vendors will likely assure you won’t lose your deposit. BUT, have a discussion with your vendors regarding their pricing. While they are apt to be more than happy to just transfer your deposit to a different date, some have pricing increases if it’s a different year. Have thorough conversations after reviewing their contracts.

For those who are certainly postponing and rescheduling:

Remember when you started this planning process and you listed your priorities from what you cared about most to least? You’ll have to do the same thing again, because the likelihood of all of your vendors being available on the same date for 2021 is slim. Especially if one of your priorities is a Saturday wedding. Create an alternative date list, get that priority list in order, contact all your vendors after you’ve reviewed contracts and give them date options.

One thing I will gently remind everyone during this process is to be kind. Fear and panic can do terrible things to people. And fear breeds aggression, so before you (vendors and couples) get on phone calls, take some deep breaths and remember we are all in this together. Aggression is not cute.

Lasty, if you need help with an elopement, send me an email. If you have decided to go a completely different direction and want a pop-up wedding or micro-wedding later in the year or 2021, also send me an email; I’ve got options for you.
